In Cameroon and many other countries, our career choices are usually determined by different factors.
This choice is usually influenced by passion, mental ability, financial strength, available facilities for training vis-à-vis career choice, and peer/spousal/parental influence.
For example, many young people write the government Concours because they believe that if they get a matricule, they are guaranteed a stable income. Other times, parents, guardians, and financial sponsors sway the decision of people’s careers.
Career choices or preferences of individuals are not static/constant, they keep changing at different levels of our educational and professional lives.
These changes are usually influenced by complexity in career choice, limited financial resources, change in interest/ambition, spousal influence.
Therefore, nobody is stuck in a particular career but everyone has the chance to change careers and grow.
Career development is therefore one aspect that is lacking in Cameroon though its very important.
It’s a lifelong process of learning and decision-making that brings one closer to his/her ideal job, skillset, and lifestyle.
It can also be looked at as a lifelong process of managing, learning, work, and transition in order to move toward personal development and evolve in one’s professional life.

Career 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬.
𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆
These are conscious thoughts, ideas, activities, and decisions taken by an individual, independent of any organization to develop his/her career in order to reach his/her ideal career goals.
It involves effective planning, decision making, clearly stated goals, time management, and deadline allocation.
𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲
This is synonymous with “on-the-job training”. These are strategies put in place within an organization to help employees develop professionally and be able to multitask.
This gives room for small yet competent manpower within an organization. On the part of the employees, they are open to opportunities for growth/promotion within the organization.
For example, at Brite Academy, the institution decides to implement a strategy that all permanent staff is trained in graphics designing.
Instead of hiring someone to perform the singular role of graphics designing, all staff after haven undergone this training can conveniently perform the role in addition to their technical task/role
